Become a fellow

The Fellowship transforms government from the inside out. Use your skills to directly impact people’s lives.

How to apply

The current round of Fellowship applications are now closed. Once our 2018 application is live, we will announce it via our mailing list. Please sign up!

What the Fellowship looks like

The Code for America fellowship is a full-time paid year of service for professionals in the technology industry, including developers, designers, product managers, and related roles. Cross-functional teams of three are embedded in local governments to develop digital tools that help cities and counties deliver key public services across health, economic development, and safety and justice.

Why you should join

The Fellowship is your chance to use your skills to directly impact everyday people’s lives and transform government from the inside out. Our partnerships create cultural and structural change in local government by pairing technologists with government teams who want to create great services for the public, and enabling them to rapidly deploy technology that is easy to use, that works in real time, and that operates at a fraction of the cost that governments are used to.

Who we're looking for

Fellows are mission-driven digital professionals with multi-disciplinary experience in engineering, design, user experience, research, GIS and product management. Fellows are curious, creative, entrepreneurial, and have a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and respectful communication. We welcome and support technologists from traditionally underrepresented communities. The one restriction: you must be eligible to work in the United States.

The salary for fellows is a $5K per month stipend, plus benefits.
