In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States has seen incredible rapid response efforts across governments to immediately address the needs of impacted individuals. Every day, there are changes to the status quo.  But it’s not just governments making an impact on communities. There are dedicated volunteers and community organizations working in the open to develop solutions and improve the lives of their neighbors.

Enter: The Code for America Brigade Network, a national alliance of community organizers, developers, and designers who put technology to work for the benefit of local communities.

Join Code for America and the Brigades for a virtual conversation where you can:

  • Learn more about specific ways of Brigades are tackling local problems collaboratively and in the open
  • Find out how local and state governments and community organizations can leverage existing projects and partner on efforts, in times of crisis and beyond
  • Find out how individuals can plug in and get involved as a volunteer with a Brigade

Brigades have long worked in open source, collaborative environments, learning from the 80+ other chapters across the country and connecting with community organizations and local governments to learn how to best support their needs. Even before the pandemic, Brigades were familiar with rapid crisis response, having deployed their skills in the face of natural disasters like hurricanes and wildfires. Now, in response to the pandemic, Brigades are building and supporting key initiatives in communities across the country. These range from mapping locations to help children and families get access to food to amplifying the impact of Code for America’s Earned Income Tax Credit efforts, as well as repurposing existing projects to better meet today’s challenges.
