Civic technology plays a key role in moving government faster to serve those in dire need, whether it’s budget relocation, dispatching teams to emergency units, or introducing new partners and contractors to speed up programs. This has been especially true since March, when the State of California and much of the country issued shelter-in-place orders to slow the spread of COVID-19.

When the pandemic hit California, the Department of Public Health moved to assist teenagers to have continued access to sexual health and support, and the Department of Social Services partnered with Code for America to launch a brand new program for students who depend on free and reduced school meals. Join us for a conversation with some of the people who made these responses possible, where they’ll share lessons learned and the work that still needs to be done.
